| Panabo City is an important
trading post, a thriving industrial center sandwiched by two
urbanized cities in region eleven. Davao City is only 33 kilometers
in the southern boundary while Tagum City is just 28 kilometers
north. Thus, it can be rightfully been called as “ An Agri-Industrial
Gateway to the World”. |
 |
 |
It cannot be denied that
the flourishing export dollar earner banana plantations and
other industrial firms such as STANFILCO Group of Companies,
LAPANDAY Group of Companies, TADECO, MACONDRAY PLASTICS, ARCMEN
Food Industries, Consolidated Plywood Industries, Inc. U-MIX
Aggregates and others are evidences of a progressive City in
the South. |
| This is further strengthened
by the Department of Trade and Industry’s recognition that she
is one among the Provincial Agri-Industrial Centers (PAIC’s)
in the country. |
| The identified major
projects under the Davao Integrated Development Program (DIDP),
a flagship project of President Estrada, such as the proposed
International Container Port Terminal at barangay San Pedro,
the proposed Mass Transport Project – “LRT” plying the Municipality
of Sta. Cruz, Davao City and Panabo route, and the massive construction
of farm to market roads would definitely push its present stature. |
| Also, the recent opening
of the National Highway from Bukidnon to the Davao Province
via the municipalities of Talaingod , Kapalong and Tagum City
would give it a competitive advantage over the other cities
because of its good roads, communication, power supply, seaport
facilities, its proximity to the Davao International Airport
and its position in the Davao Gulf. |
 |
The existence of educational
institutions in the city such as Davao Del Norte State College
(DNSC), University of Mindanao (UM), Agricultural Training Institute
(ATI), Regional Fisherman Training Center (RFTC), Sports Complex
and Multipurpose Gym and strong involvement of Technical Skills
Development Authority (TESDA) would guarantee production of
good skilled manpower resources to supply the manpower requirement
of the industries in the city.
With good governance, vast natural resources and highly skilled
manpower available, its vision becoming an “Agri-Industrial
Gateway to the World” would definitely be realized. |
