Panabo teams up with GMA Kapuso on Oplan Ondoy PDF Print E-mail

In a gesture of support and solidarity for the victims of the recent typhoon “Ondoy”, the Local Government of Panabo teamed up with the GMA Kapuso Foundation and launched Oplan Ondoy, which culmi nated in a formal turn-over on October 2, 2009 at the New City Hall, Panabo City.

Oplan Ondoy is a mass donation campaign for relief assistance initiated by City Mayor Jose L. Silvosa Sr. to help alleviate the sad condition of the victims in the aftermath of the worst typhoon ever experienced in Manila and Luzon. Mayor Silvosa said that the typhoon Ondoy created so much havoc and left devastation and destruction in its wake and we can do no less but help in anyway that we can.

This one week campaign, which was immediately launched after typhoon Ondoy hit, generated an overwhelming number of bags of used clothing, sacks of rice, assorted boxes of canned and packed goods and milk powder as well as other necessities. In fact, it initially took 3 dump trucks to transport all the donated goods to the GMA Kapuso Foundation. They in turn will arrange immediate shipping of the same to Luzon and Metro Manila areas affected.

“Masaya po kami ng nabalitaan naming may ginawa ang Local Government of Panabo nitong Oplan Ondoy. Kung makita nyo sa telebisyon, mahirap ang sitwasyon doon dahil sa gutom at baha kaya malaking tulong po ito. Ta-os puso po kaming nagpapasalamat sa inyo. (We are very happy to hear that the Local Government of Panabo initiated Oplan Ondoy. As you can see on television, the situation there is very hard due to the flooding and resulting hunger thus this will be of great help. Heartfelt thanks to all of you.)” Program Manager GMA Testigo Davao Darius Relatado said in his message during the Turn-over program.

Aside from relief goods, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Panabo, in its 37th Regular Session, approved an appropriation of P1Million cash donation (SP Resolution No. 767). They also authorized Mayor Silvosa to apportion the same for relief operation, rehabilitation, reconstruction of services and other works or services (SP Resolution No. 768) thru the auspices of the Department of Social Welfare & Development Region XI.
