A.    Geographic Location


    The City of Panabo lies between the two (2) bustling cities of Tagum and Davao City. It lies on latitude of 125º to 44” North and longitude of 7˚,  14”  and 7˚ and 23”  East. It is bounded on the North-East and North-West by the Municipality of Carmen, on the South-West by Davao Gulf and on the West by Davao City.

    The city proper is located along Daang, Maharlika (Pan-Philippines Highways) and accessible by land transportation and other vehicles plying the Davao-Butuan and Cagayan routes. It is thirty-two (32) kilometers away from Davao City and twenty-eight (28) kilometers away from Tagum City. It is also forty-five (45) minutes ride from Davao and thirty minutes (30) from Tagum City (Map 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, & 1.4).


B.    Land Area by Barangay

    The City’s total land area is 25,123 hectares. This is only twenty nine percent (29%) of the total land area of Davao Province.

    The largest barangay is Lower Panaga with a total land area of 1,024 hectares or 4.97% of the City’s  area while barangay Sto. Nino has the smallest with only 98 hectares. The latter has only limited area for development expansion, but commercial activities abound. Specifically it houses the public market and other business establishments.   

Barangay Dapecol has the biggest land allocation reserved by the city government. It is largely planted with Cavendish bananas owned by Tagum Development Corporation (TADECO).

C.     Population Size, Growth and Trend

    The population of Panabo has been growing significantly over the years. From 1960, population grew from a level of 42,509 to 133,950 in 2000, or an average growth rate of 2.76 percent (Table 1.1). Faster growth can be observed during the period 1975 to 1980 and 1980 to 1990.

    The National Statistics Office estimated the population level to reach 149,269 and 165,761 in years 2005 and 2010, respectively.
